Revolution Now: The Beginning
Bold and daring Christian fiction! Revolution Now is a book that speaks to this generation very loudly. The beginning of the book is kind of disturbing on a certain level; we deal with two very troubled teens, one who is a Satanist and the other who struggles with his anger in ways that’s nearly a shame for someone so young. Together, these two troublemakers come up with a list of people they want to harm and even go as far as planning to check names off this list—ending with a dramatic confrontation with the police. Thankfully, God has other plans for these teens and changes their lives in ways they cannot imagine. Before we know it, we are reading about spiritual warfare on an entirely new level.
What I liked most about this book was the significance of the encounter with God that the protagonist shared. In the beginning, the hero of this story is actually the villain—but their interaction with God the Father is so impactful it not only changes the course of this young man’s life, it actually changes the book entirely! I can’t say too much about the story without spoiling anything—which serves as a testament to how well put together the entire book is. Nothing happens for no reason here, from beginning to middle to end each event ties in to the next and carries the story forward.
The character development is spectacular here; as I said before, our protagonist starts off as a very unlikeable character you might even find yourself rooting against. By the end of the book, however, things have changed so drastically, you will find yourself unable to part with such wonderful characters.
The message here is very important but I enjoyed the story of salvation most. This was Christian fiction portrayed in a way that covers many bases; there is action, a message of salvation, conversion, character development, supernatural elements, suspense, and more. If you enjoy thrilling YA novels, I would highly recommend this to you, but it will be most appreciated by Christian readers and those with an interest in YA fantasy/supernatural writing.
